A Good Unit But With Flaws
I bought my 755T over two years ago. I had another Garmin model before I bought this model. What brought me back to Garmin was its ease of use. You can virtually open the box right up and figure it out on your own. Actually, it needed to be this way because you don't get a hard copy of an owner's manual. The unit comes with a one page booklet for four different languages. If you want more detail, you have to go online to read/download the more comprehensive version.
I was sold on "Lifetime" map updates but tonight I found that to be kind of A SCAM. Lately, when I turn the unit on it will tell me to update my maps. Tonight I took the unit inside to do just that but found out I have to pay $50 to get an updated version. I thought the advertisements where supposed to allow for free updating but I shouldn't be getting a warning telling me to update my maps then either.
The unit is ungodly slow too to boot up. My Droid Incredible is able to find my location...

Does what it's supposed to
It's not the fanciest but it does what it does well. In fact, it's a little TOO fancy, IMNSHO; MP3 player and photo viewer are superfluous. I chose it because it DOES NOT have speech recognition, which bogs the GPS down whilst trying to keep up with your position/direction. Many think SR's "kewl" but I can do without it if it bogs the GPS down.
As otherwise noted, lane guidance is not available everywhere but at least it tells me to "Keep right onto Interstate 55" then "Keep left onto Interstate 55 Business Loop" instead of leaving me on my own to figure out which of 4 ways to go. No doubt in my travels I'll find someplace where it doesn't give me enough information but it's a damn sight better than my old TomTom.
The display is very readable even in sunlight, though I sometimes have to rotate it to reduce glare. Tip: use a donut mount that sits on top of your dash so you can easily rotate it. Fixed mounts are harder to do this with.
The Garmin...
A few quirks, but overall pretty nice unit
I bought this unit a little over a year ago and have used it on no less than a dozen lengthy road trips since, as well as countless shorter trip around the city I live, and it has always gotten me to where I want to go.
When you power the unit on for the first time, you're given a grace period of I believe 60 days if my memory serves me correctly to go on Garmin's website for a free map update.
This unit has a lot of bells and whistles and I can tell you right now that most of them are useless. FM Transmitter: I tried this one time and immediately changed it back to the default setting. First, it doesn't sound any better or clearer than the sound coming through the unit itself, and to make it worse, you can't listen to your radio when this feature is in use. Instead all you hear is static and radio frequency waves.
Junction View: These features are all marketing fluff. Don't fall for that fancy graphic that they display to sell this unit. I live...
