Outstanding Features
I bought this unit here at Amazon.com, and then had it installed at a major appliance center. The major appliance center had free installation with the purchase of this unit, but I saved enough money buying it here at Amazon, to where I came out ahead by having to pay for the installation.
This unit made quite an impression on the technicians, who all said that they want to get one for their vehicle.
It fit PERFECTLY in my Ford F-150 double din. Looks great.
I have already paired my cell phone via bluetooth with the unit. You have to buy the accessory for the bluetooth, which is well worth the money. When I get a call, it turns down the music, and the caller id comes up on the screen. You then just answer. You also have a phonebook on the screen, which uploaded right from my blackberry. This accessory is a must.
I also got the iPOD adapter. This accessory is a HUGE MUST. It sounds absolutely unbelieveable. However, this is one of...

Pioneer is an absolute failure at customer service
Woe to the customer who has *any issue whatsoever* with their $2K unit. But first, the good stuff:
This is a complex review becuase there is as much to like as dislike about what is arguably the most feature-rich GPS currently available (including all factory-installed units according to my audiophile and 'auto-phile' friends). It has a 30GB hard drive (!) so you can load in your CDs, but an obnoxious DRM so that it will not read your iTunes-purchased MP3s that you ripped onto a CD. 2 stars on the DRM
It has a lot of interesting features such as the possibility of satellite-linked traffic information. In the San Francisco Bay Area, I found this feature to work pretty well. There are some obvious flaws: either in the UI or the actual calculation, it doesn't appear to readily include the traffic delays in the arrival time. I don't trust it to reroute me to arteries over freeways when i think it is faster. I may be right, it may not. I don't trust it b/c I...
Awesome device - Pioneer support is, well, slow...
I've been able to compare this device to a couple different factory instaled navigation units. One from Nissan, the other from Ford. I have also owned a Garmin Street Pilot nav unit.
The Pioneer offers much more flexibility than the factory units. It has clear and bright navigation (even 3D mode!), Ipod interface, Bluetooth, Hard drive space to store music on, XM, Sirius, AM/FM, TV interface, DVD video (multiple outputs), reverse camera ability, voice commands, and there is probably more that I have forgotten...
At any rate, the navigation ability of this unit is outstanding, but not quite as acurate as the Garmin. The Pioneer does not show addresses as the Garmin does but neither does the Nissan or Ford units. The Nissan and Ford DO, however, show elevation, but the Pioneeer does not.
Another key feature missing on the Pioneer is Speed Sensitive Volume. All other GPS units, including the standalone Garmin, have SSV. It is a crime to leave it...
